I'm not especially moved in either direction by the products I've used by them. Except for one- the Climate Control Heat& Humidity Gel.
I've done twist outs with just about everything out there. This give the bounce, hold, and softness that I have yet to find in any product! But it's crazy pricey. Like $10 or so for a 2.5 ounce bottle, which for me got about 3 uses. Ymmv.
Curls products smelled REALLY good. Like cake. I love cake so I thought I would also love the products. Nope! Now I have a cabinet full of delight smelling but useless products. The Whipped Cream Heavy Curl Styling Cream was NOT heavy. It did an okay job but it didn't work better than the old standard ORS Curly Pudding which is about 1/3 price.
Jane Carter Solution products smell a little tree huggerish<--- yes that word is completely made up, but if you know a tree hugger their house probably smells like this product lol. I still wasn't that impressed but they are a ton more useful than the Curls products :( I could be using something wrong, idk.
But..... The Jane Carter Curl Defining Cream is a BEAST! Makes locs lay down longer (lengthwise), shinier, shoot sprinkles...all of that! You can overdo it with this product, so use sparingly. You can purchase it online for about $25 or buy in stores for $35. It's 16oz and lasts me about a month using on clients everyday. Maybe it could last other people 3 months or longer.
So if you want a full bodied, super soft twist out use the Ouidad. If you're going mainly for length use Jane Carter's product.
***Edited to add: If you have wet and wavy weave, braids or whatever the Ouidad Climate Control will keep your hair from matting up. I used it on some braids I was going to take down and got another 3 weeks out of it!

The Big Chop: White Woman Style
Well here goes nothing. I came across this site while surfing the beauty forums and it was called Goinggraylookinggreat.com. Okay I'm game, so I get my click on. While I'm reading the stories of these women who decided not to color their hair anymore for whatever reasons, I start coming across words that I have only recently seen used at the same time. You know the ones "Big Chop" "Transitioning" "Natural Hair." It took me a few times reading before I was like "Did she just say 'Big chop?'"
Then I started feelin like a black musician when Elvis hit the scene. "They're stealing our shit!" Followed by "We can't have nothin for ourselves!"
But terminology aside it is good to see women of any race comfortable rockin their hair naturally, regardless of the chemical they are transitioning from. Plus I'm a sucker for Before and After pics.
**Note the title indicates "White woman style" because that is the majority of the women that I saw on the site. Don't get crazy.**

What I'm Lovin'
Organic Root Stimulator's Smooth ~n~Hold Pudding and Hair Mayonnaise. The Hair Mayo is good to condition and soften your hair and the Pudding helps pull together a style like a braid out or a twist out. I believe this product is 100x better than that Miss Jessie's ( more on that at another time).
What I DON'T love any more... Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask. It's drying my friggin hair! :(
It started off good but now, not so much. My client's hair would feel easier to comb, but once it was blowdried it felt "off." Like once the product was rinsed out you couldn't comb it "off." That's not good because you can use any product to get that effect.
One more thing I'm lovin'... My new wig. As modeled here by Braid Studio Betty lol.
I had to cut it and wear it sideways, but I lurve it. Plus I couldn't decide what style I wanted to do on my own hair. This is Memorial Week so it's going to be long and busy. Burgundy wig ftw! I wish I would have taken a pic before I cut it to show how different it looks.

Why Doesn't Magic Johnson Own a Black Beauty Supply?
Or any other black celeb for that matter. Especially Brandy and those Lacefronts.
They can get down with Starbucks and Fat Burger (E40- I see you) but not shampoo and weave?
I happened to stumble across a documentary about Koreans owning all of the beauty supply stores in most black neighborhoods. I had to think about that. The only black owned beauty supply I know of in Vegas in called Attitudes II. When I asked the owner back in 2007 why there weren't certain product lines in the store, he replied "They won't sell to me."
The craziest thing I noticed was in either part 3 or 4 when there was one beauty supply owner who they would sell to, because with his accent they didn't think he was black.
And just for good measure here are contrasting views on the matter:
Racialicious - They are not digging the Anti-Korean sentiment
Black Informant - Suggests pooling resources and forming Superstores rather than a handlfull of scattered stores everywhere.
Off to watch the Boondocks and comb more hair.
